Introduction
Fairy Gazers are magically enhanced eyes found in both organic creatures and artificially constructed beings. The origins of Fairy Gazers can be traced to shortly after the deity Aetherion separated into two sub-deities: Luminara and Noctharn. These two sub-deities leaked their influence and power into Cresca, affecting its biosphere.
From there, animals began developing abnormal traits and abilities depending on the region of the planet. These included exotic fur, extra limbs, enhanced reflexes and strength, and improved eyesight. For sentient creatures, it was much the same, but mutations affecting their eyes could eventually be manipulated and replicated
Origins & History
The first recorded attempts to replicate these strange ocular phenomena involved simply applying magical energy—white magic or black magic—directly to the eyes. The results varied wildly, ranging from complete blindness and the eyes melting away to the successful creation of eyes capable of producing these strange phenomena.
While these early attempts could grant sentient life the special eyes they were seeking, the process was unreliable and incredibly dangerous. Those who successfully gained these eyes were often left with abilities that were too unstable for their bodies to handle, overly situational, or completely useless.
As knowledge grew, so did the methods of acquiring these special eyes, which were known as Mystic Peekers at the time.
These methods included rituals, chants, drinking herbal teas infused with magical energy, and receiving blessings from Satellite or Breakaway deities.
Instead of receiving random powers through their eyes, sentient creatures eventually learned to engineer them through willpower, emotion, and requests made to their deities.
The term “Fairy Gazer” was later adopted as the broad, generic term for magically enhanced eyes because mystical creatures known as fairies were capable of granting other sentient creatures’ magical eyes. However, the eyes they granted were often unstable and shortened the user’s lifespan.
Conclusion
In the modern era, known as the Coiling Reckoning, Fairy Gazers are rare magical abilities used by only a few. Many of the methods used to obtain them are heavily gatekept by old bloodlines or have been lost to time. The types of Fairy Gazers still employed often come at a great cost to the user, whether through mental or physical harm.
